FAQs

What if I have any pre-existing health conditions?

If you have any pre-existing health conditions or if you are pregnant you must consult with your doctor or qualified health professional to find out if Pilates is right for you. In some cases, you may be able to make this decision for yourself, but if you’re ever in doubt always seek medical advice. Pilates is a safe form of exercise that is regularly used as a form of rehabilitation, so please do not let this put you off! If you have any specific requirements do not hesitate in getting in touch with me, I’m able to conduct 1:1 sessions entirely centred around you.

Am I the right age for Pilates?

You’re never too old to practice Pilates! If you’re active it doesn’t matter what age you are. Pilates is often recommended for those who are above 60 years of age as it’s a brilliant form of low-impact exercise.

I’ve never practiced Pilates, can I still book a class?

Yes, of course! If you’ve never practiced before you can still book a class with me. However, I will ask you a few questions about your health and if you have any injuries. We may go through a small induction so you’re familiar with the fundamentals of Pilates. If you want to find out more or just want a quick chat before booking into your first class, get in touch with me via my contact page on this website.

What do I wear?

I always recommend clothing that allows you to move freely, Try to avoid thick, restrictive clothing and opt for something with elasticity. Zips, buttons or decorative clothing may get in the way of your comfort but none the less, wear what feels right for you. No shoes or socks are required.

Do I need to use any equipment?

I specifically teach Mat Pilates so you don’t need any other pieces of equipment other than a mat! Any fitness mat is suitable, it doesn’t need to be a mat designed solely for Pilates! As long as it gives you the comfort you need to perform, you’re good to go.

How often should I participate in a class?

You can practice Pilates as little or as much as you like. However, it’s recommended that you should do at least two sessions per week to truly feel the benefits of the Pilates method. If the live class times don’t correspond with your timetable, get in touch with me for digital recordings of my classes so you can do them at a time that suits you best.
